Solution:

(1) Let

v_{b}

and

v_{r}

be the speed of the boat and the current, respectively.

∴ {V_b}- {V_r}=12 \;\text "km/h" . . . . . .

and

v_{b}+v_{r}=20 \text "km/h" . . . . . .

Subtracting (1) from (2), we get

2 {v}_{ {r}}=8 ⇒ {V}_{ {r}}=4 \text "km/h"
