Xuan Zang, the seventh century Chinese Buddhist pilgrim and scholar, stayed in Vijayawada to study Buddhist scriptures. During his stay, he had studied and copied the Abhidhammapitakam, the last of the three pitakas constituting the Pali canon, the scriptures of Theravada Buddhism.
