From a cloth store, 35 bought black dress; 30 bought red dress; 20 bought blue dress; 2 bought all the three coloured dresses; and 12 bought dresses of at least two colours. How many bought exactly one dress?

Consider the diagram

From the question,

x+y+z+2=12

x+y+z=10

Exactly one dress,

Black→

35-x-y-2=33-(x+y)

Blue→

20-y-z-2=18-(y+z)

Red→

30-x-z-2=28-(x+z)

Adding all three,

33+18+28-2(x+y+z)

=79-2(10)

=79-20=5
