A batsman in his 12th innings makes a score of 63 runs and there by increases his average scores by 2. What is his average after the 12th innings?

Solution:

(b) Let the average of batsman after 11thinnings = A

{\Total \score \made \by \batsman \at \the \end \of 11\th \innings}/ 11

= A
⇒Total score after 11th innings = 11 A
Now,

{\Total \score \after 11\th \innings+ \score \made \in 12\th \innings}/12

= A+2
⇒ 11A + 63 = (A + 2) × 12
⇒ 11A – 12 A = 24 – 63
⇒ A = 39
12th innings average = 39 + 2 = 41
