(5) In its notification, titled“Rationalization of BranchAuthorisation Policy- Revisionof Guidelines,” released in May2017, the RBI said that domesticscheduled commercialbanks (other than RRBs) arepermitted to open, unless otherwisespecifically restricted,banking outlets in tier 1 to tier6 centres without having theneed to take permission fromRBI in each case. The rationalizationis applicable to all DomesticScheduled CommercialBanks (excluding RegionalRuralBanks), Small FinanceBanks, Payment Banks andLocal Area Banks.
