The Asirgarh fort was known as the ‘Key of Deccan’. It is situated in the Satpura Range in Madhya Pradesh. It commands a pass through the Satpurasconnecting the valleys of the Narmada and Tapti rivers, one of the most important routes from northern India to the Deccan, hence it was known as the "key tothe Deccan".
