James Ramsay MacDonald had announced the Communal Award in 1932 during India’s Freedom Movement.
He was the Prime Minister of United Kingdom from 1929 to 1935.
He was the first labour party politician who become the Prime Minister.
The Communal Award was given on 16 August 1932 by him, awarding separate electorates in India for the Forward Caste, Scheduled Caste, Hindus,Buddhists, Sikhs, Indian Christians, Anglo-Indians, Europeans and Depressed Classes (now known as the Scheduled Caste) etc.
He considered himself as 'a friend of the Indians'.
