Phalodi is known as the ‘Salt City’ because of its salt industry in Rajasthan. It is in the Jodhpur district.
It is in the buffer zone of the Thar Desert and often subject to extreme temperature conditions due to its arid climate.
The salt business in Phalodi town began in 1960. The water level used to be low but as the salty water increased, the water level also rose by around 100 feet.
Reen village which is around 20 kilometers from Phalodi town, is famous for its salt business.
Most of the salt manufactured here is transported to Haryana and Punjab.
Rajasthan is the third largest salt producing state in India and contributes 8 percent of salt production in India
