An iron cube of side 10 cm is hammered into a rectangular sheet of thickness 0.5 cm. If the sides of the sheet are in the ratio of 1 : 5, then find its sides.

Validate

Solution:

Let sides of the sheet are x and 5x; then
x × 5x × 0.5 = 10 × 10 × 10
⇒

x^2

{10×10×10}/{5×0.5}

∴ x = 20 cm
Hence, its sides are 20 cm and 5 × 20 = 100 cm respectively.
