If the median of the distribution (arranged in the ascending order) 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, x, 15, 17 is 8, what is the value of x?

Solution:

The distribution is 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, x, 15, 17

∴ Median

={\Value \of 8/2\th \term +\Value \of (8/2+1)\th \term}/2

={\Value \of 4\th \term +\Value \of 5\th \term}/2

={7+9}/2=8

Also, the distribution is arranged in the ascending order, then, 9 ≤ x ≤ 15
