The table given below shows the frequency distribution of a discrete variable X with two missing frequencies. If the total frequency is 25 and the arithmetic mean of X is 2, then what is the value of the missing frequency f ?

Arithmetic mean

\ov X={4×0+1×f+2×9+3×g+4×4}/25

⇒50=34+f+3g

⇒f+3g-16=0

..... (i)
Also given

4+f+9+g+4=25

⇒f+g=8

...... (ii)
On solving Eqs. (i) and (ii), we get

f = g = 4
