If 3x – 5y = 5 and

x/{x+y} = 5/ 7

then the value of (x – y) is:

Solution:

3x – 5y = 5 ...(i)
And

x/{x+y} = 5/ 7⇒2x-5y=0

...(i)
Subtracting equation (ii) from (i) we get x = 5
From (ii) 5y = 2 × 5 ⇒ y = 2
Hence, x – y = 5 – 2 = 3
