A sum of Rs. 312 was divided among 100 boys and girls in such a way that each boy get Rs. 3.60 and each girl Rs. 2.40. Find the number of girls.

Solution:

Let the number of girls and boys be x and (100 – x) respectively.
Now,

x × 2.40 + (100 - x) × 3.60 = 312

⇒ 1.20x = 48

∴ x = 480/12 = 40
