Solution:

Let the total number of pages of the book be x.
Then,

x-[3/8x+4/5(x-3/8x)]=30

⇒x-[3/8x+4/5×{5x}/8]=30

⇒x-{7x}/8=30

⇒x/8=30⇒x=240

Hence, total number of pages = 240
