One-third of Steve's savings in National Savings Certificate is equal to one-half of his savings in Public Provident Fund. If he has Rs. 1,50,000 as total savings how much has he saved in Public Provident Fund?

Validate

Solution:

Let his savings in National Saving Certificate and Public Provident Fund be Rs. x and Rs. y.
Now,

1/3x=1/2y

∴x=3/2y

Now,

x+y=1,50,000

⇒3/2y+y=1,50,000

⇒{5y}/2=1,50,000

∴y=4/7x
