Free notebooks were distributed equally among children of a class. The number of notebooks each child got was one-eighth of the number of children. Had the number of the children been half, each child would have got 16 notebooks. How many notebooks were distributed in total?

Validate

Solution:

Let the total number of children be x;
then, share of notebooks of each child

= x/8

New share of notebooks of each children

= x/4

Now,

x/4 = 16⇒ x = 64

Total number of note books

= x × x/8

= 64 ×64/8 = 512
