One third of the boys and one-half of the girls of a college participated in a social work project. If the number of participating students is 300 out of which 100 are boys, what is the total number of students in the college?

Validate

Solution:

Let the number of boys and girls be x and y respectively.

1/3x = 100

∴ x = 300

1/2y = 200

∴ y = 400

Total number of students = x + y = 300 + 400 = 700
