Madhava invested certain amount in three different schemes P, Q and R with the rate of interest 10% p.a., 12% p.a. and 15% p.a. respectively. If the total interest accrued in one year was Rs. 3200 and the amount invested in scheme R was 150% of the amount invested in scheme P and 240% of the amount invested in scheme Q. Find the amount invested in scheme Q.

Solution:

Let amount invested in scheme P = Rs. x then amount invested in scheme R =

150/ 100 ×x

= Rs.

3/ 2 x

and also, if amount invested in Scheme Q = Rs. y; then amount invested in Scheme
R =

240/ 100 × y

= Rs.

12/ 5 y

Since,

3/2x=12/5 y

∴x=8/5y

Hence,

{8y×10×1}/{5×100}+{y×12×1}/100+{12y×15×1}/{5×100}=3200

⇒4/25y+3/25y+9/25y=3200

⇒y=5000
