Divide Rs. 2379 into three parts so that their amounts after 2, 3 and 4 years respectively may be equal, the rate of interest being 5% p.a. at simple interest. What is the first part?

Validate

Solution:

Let three parts be Rs. x, Rs. y and Rs. z respectively, then

x+{x×5×2}/100

=y+{y×5×3}/100

=z+{z×5×4}/100

⇒22/20x=23/20y=24/20z

then,

y=22/23x \;\;& \;\;z=11/12x

Since,

x+22/20x+11/12x=2379

⇒793/276x=2379

∴x=828
