Salaries of Megha and Shikha are in the ratio 4 : 5. If the salary of each is increased by Rs 2,000, the new ratio becomes 16 : 19. What is Shikha’s present salary?

Solution:

Let their salaries be Rs 4x and Rs 5x.
Then,

{4x+2000}/{5x+2000}=16/19

19(4x+2000)=16(5x+2000)

4x = 6,000

x = 1,500

∴ Present Salary of Shikha
= Rs (5x + 2,000)
= Rs [(5 × 1,500) + 2,000]
= Rs 9,500
