A bag contains notes Rs 20, Rs 10, and Rs 5 in the ratio 5 : 9 : 4, worth Rs 273. Find the number of 20 rupee notes.

Solution:

Let the number of notes of Rs 20, Rs 10 and Rs 5 be 5x, 9x and 4x respectively.
Then,

5/20x+9/10x+4/5x=273

x=140

∴ Number of 20 rupees notes = 5 × 140 = 700
