A bag contains 20 p, 10 p and 5 p coins in the ratio 3 : 4 : 7, amounting to Rs 513. Find the number of 5p coins.

Solution:

Let the number of 20 p, 10 p and 5 p coins be 3x, 4x and 7x respectively
Then

3/5x+/10x+7/20x=513

{12x+8x+7x}/20=513

27x = 513 × 20

∴ Number of 5 p coins

= 7x = 7 × 380 = 2,660
