A bag contains coins of 50 p, 10 p and 25 p in the ratio of 4 : 5 : 6. If there are Rs 50 in all, how many 50 p coins are there?

Solution:

Let the numbers of 50 p, 10 p and 25 p coins be4x, 5x and 6x respectively.
Then,

4/2x+5/10x+6/4x=50

2x+x/2+3/2x=50

8x = 100

x = 12.5

Number of 50 p coins

= 4x = 4 × 12.5 = 50
