The ages of A and B are in the ratio 2 : 3. Sixteen years hence, the ratio will be 3 : 4.What are their present ages?

Solution:

Let their ages be 2x and 3x.
So,

{2x+16}/{3x+16}=3/4

8x + 6x = 9x + 47

x = 16

So, A’s present age = 2 × 16 = 32 years
B’s present age = 3 × 16 = 48 years
