In a bag, there are coins of 25p, 10p and 5p in the ratio of 1 : 2 : 3. If there are Rs. 30 in all, how many 5p coins are there?

Solution:

Let the number of coins of 25p, 10p and 5p be x, 2x and 3x respectively.
Then,

x ×1/4+2x× 1/10+3x× 1/20= 30

{5x+ 4x+ 3x}/20 = 30

{3x}/5=30

∴ x = {5 ×30}/3=50

Hence, number of 5p coins = 3x = 3 × 50 = 150
