The ratio of the number of boys and girls in a college is 7 : 8. If the percentage increase in the numberof boys and girls be 20% and 10% respectively, what will be the new ratio?

Solution:

Let the number of boys and girls be 7x and 8x initially.
Now, number of boys

=120/100×7x= 42/5 x

And number of girls

= 110/100×8x= 44/5 x

Hence, their new ratio

=42/5x:44/5x = 21 : 22
