Madhawa bought a scooter for a certain sum of money. He spent 10% of the cost on repairs and sold the scooter for a profit of Rs. 1100. How much did he spend on repairs if he made a profit of 20%.

Solution:

Here, 20% = Rs. 1100
∴ 100% =

1100/20 × 50

= Rs. 5500
Hence, net C.P. = Rs. 5500
Cost of scooter =

10/11 × 5500

= Rs. 5000
Hence, cost of repairs = 5500 – 5000 = Rs. 500
