The prices of a refrigerator and a television set are in the ratio 5 : 3. If the refrigerator costs Rs 5,500 more than the television set, then the price of the refrigerator is:

Validate

Solution:

Let the cost of the television set = x
Cost of the refrigerator = x + 5,500
Ratio of television and refrigerator = 5 : 3

{x+5500}/x=5/3

3 x + 16,500 = 5 x

16,500 = 2 x

x = 8,250

Cost of the refrigerator = 8,250 + 5,500 = Rs 13,750
