The digit at the unit's place of a number is equal to the digit at the ten's place of half of that number and the digit at the ten's place of that number is less than the digit at unit's place of half of the number by 1. The sum of the digits of the number is 7. Then number is:

Solution:

Let the number be 10x + y; then

{10x+y}/2 = 10y + (x + 1)

⇒ 10x + y = 20y + 2x + 2

⇒ 8x - 19y = 2

...(i)
Also,

x + y = 7

..(ii)
Solving equations (i) and (ii) we get

x = 5

and

y = 2

Hence, number

= 10 × 5 + 2 = 52
