Total students in the school = 960
Total sweets = X
The number of sweets got by each student = x.
So, $\frac{960}{\mathit{X}}=\mathit{x}$
X = 960x ......(i)
On a particular day, 360 students were absent.
So each student got sweets:
$\frac{\mathit{X}}{960-360}=\mathit{x}+3$
$\frac{\mathit{X}}{600}=\mathit{x}+3$
$\mathit{X}=600\mathit{x}+1,800$ ......(ii)
From (i) and (ii),
$960\mathit{x}=600\mathit{x}+1,800$
$960\mathit{x}-600\mathit{x}=1,800$
$360\mathit{x}=1,800$
$\mathit{x}=\frac{1,800}{360}=5$ Sweets
∴ The number of sweets got by each student = 5.
