Remaining apples $=\frac{\mathit{x}}{4}-\frac{3}{4}.$
Apples given to the third customer $=\frac{\mathit{x}}{8}-\frac{3}{8}+\frac{1}{2}$ $=\frac{\mathit{x}}{8}+\frac{1}{8}$
Remaining apples $=\frac{\mathit{x}}{8}-\frac{7}{8}$
Apples given to fourth customer $=\frac{\mathit{x}}{16}-\frac{7}{16}+\frac{1}{2}$ $=\frac{\mathit{x}}{16}+\frac{1}{16}$
Remaining apples $=\frac{\mathit{x}}{16}-\frac{15}{16}=15$
$\Rightarrow \mathit{x}-15=240$
$\mathit{x}=255$
So, the total number of apple is equal to 255.
