Find the largest in the group of five consecutive positive integers whose sum is 35 less than the square of 10.

Solution:

The sum of integers

= 10^2 - 35

= 100 - 35 = 65

.
Let the five integers be (a - 2), (a - 1), (a), (a + 1) and (a + 2).
Sum = (a - 2) + (a - 1) + (a) + (a + 1) + (a + 2) = 5a
5a = 65
a = 13.
The largest integer = a + 2 = 13 + 2 = 15.
