If one zero of

3x^2+8x+k=0

is the reciprocal of the other, then

k = ?

Solution:

Set both the roots as reciprocal of each other so that is y and

1 /y

(x+y)(x+1/y)=3x^2+8x+k

x^2+xy+x/y+1=3x^2+8x+k

x^2+x(y+1/y)+1=x^2+8/3x+k/3

Now equating constant coefficient, we get

k/3=1

k=3
