A daily wager gets a daily wage at the rate of Rs 150 per day subject to the condition that he will have to pay a penalty at the rate of Rs 25 per day for the days on which he absents himself. At the end of 60 days, he gets an amount of Rs 7,600. The number of days he worked is:

Solution:

Number of days worked = x
Days absent = (60 - x)
Earning for working days = 150 x
Penalty per day for absence = (-25) (60 - x)
Total amount recorded = Rs 7,600
According to the statement,

150x+(-25)(60-x)=7,600

150x-1500+25x=7600

175x=9100

x=9100/175=52

Number of working days = 52
