Solution:

Let the two successive numbers be x and (x + 1); then

x (x + 1) = 6162

⇒ x^2 + x - 6162 = 0

⇒ (x + 79) (x - 78) = 0

⇒ x = 78

(Taking positive value only)
Hence, larger number

= 78 + 1 = 79
