What is 30% of the product of two numbers of the ratio 9 : 11, if 40% of the first number is 72.

Solution:

Let the numbers be 9x and 11x.
Then,

40/100\;\of 9x=72

x=72×100/{40×9}=20

So, the numbers are 9x = 9 × 20 = 180
and 11x = 11 × 20 = 220
Their product = 180 × 220 = 39,600
∴ Required value

=30/100×39600=11,880
