Solution:

Weight of salt solution = 300 gms
Per cent of salt in salt solution = 40%
Salt =

40× 300/100= 120

gms.
Some salt should be added to make it 50% in solution.

{120+x}/{300+x}×100=50

x = 60

gms
So, 60 gms salt should be added to the solution.
