Two friends X and Y started a business investing in the ratio of 5 : 6. Z joined them after six months investing amount equal to that of Y's. At the end of the year, 20% profit was earned which was equal to Rs. 98,000. The amount invested by Z was:

Validate

Solution:

Let total capial = Rs. a; then

20/100 × a = 98000

∴a = 98000 × 5 = Rs. 4,90,000
If their individual capitals are Rs. 5x, Rs. 6x and Rs. 6x respectively,
Then, (5x × 12) + (6x × 12) + (6x × 6) = 490000 × 12
⇒ 168x = 490000 × 12

⇒x= 35000

Hence, amount invested by Z = 6x = 6 × 35000 = Rs. 2,10,000
