Find the sum of two numbers whose bigger number is greater than the smaller number by 1 and the square of the bigger number is greater than the square of the smaller number by 9?

Validate

Solution:

Let the greater number be x.
And the smaller number be y.
According to the question

x - y = 1

and

x^2-y^2 = 9

(x+y)(x-y) = 9

(x+y)(1)=9

So, x + y = 9, i.e., the sum of numbers = 9.
