Two vessels of 60 litres and 70 litres are filled with mixtures of acid and water, the proportions in the two vessels being 13 : 7 and 18 : 17, respectively. If the contents of the two vessels are mixed and 20 litres of water is added to the whole, what will be the proportion of acid to water in the resultant solution?

Quantity of acid and water in the first vessel is

13x+ 7x= 60

20x= 60

x = 30

Quantity of acid = 39 Litre
Quantity of water = 21 Litre
Similarly, in the second vessel
Quantity of acid = 36 Litre
Quantity of water = 34 Litre
Ratio of acid to water in the resultant mixture is
39 + 36 : 21 + 34
75 : 55
