A hall 25 m long and 15 m broad is surrounded by a verandah of uniform width of 3.5 m. The cost of flooring the verandah at Rs 27.50 per sq. m is:

Solution:

Area of rectangle ABCD = 25 × 15
= 375

m^2

Area of rectangle PQRS = 32 × 22 = 704

m^2

Area of the verandah = 704 − 375 = 329

m^2

Cost of flooring = 329 × 27.5 = 9,047.50
