The sides of a parallelogram are in the ratio 5 : 4 its area is 1,000 sq. units. The altitude on the greater side is 20 units and the altitude on the smaller side is:

Validate

Solution:

Let the greater and smaller side of a parallelogram be 5x and 4x.
Area of the parallelogram = base × height
1,000 = 5x × 20
⇒ x = 10
So, greater side = 50 units
Smaller side = 40 units
Altitude on the smaller side =

= 25 units
