A field is in the form of a rectangle of length 18 m and width 15 m. A pit, 7.5 m long, 6 m broad and 0.8 m deep, is dug in a corner of the field and the earth taken out is evenly spread over the remaining area of the field. The level of the field raised is:

Solution:

Volume of earth dug out that needs to spread = l × b × h
= 7.5 × 6 × 0.8
= 36

Area of the field where earth needs to be spread
= (15 ×10.5)+ (7.5× 9)
= 157.5 + 67.5
= 225
225 × h = 36
h =

{36}/{225}

= 0.16 m
