The LCM and HCF of two numbers are 84 and 21 respectively. If the ratio of the two numbers is 1 : 4. Find the larger of two numbers.

Solution:

Let the two numbers be x and 4x.
Then,

x × 4x = 21 × 84

⇒ x^2 = 21 × 21

∴ x = 21

Hence, larger of two numbers

= 4x = 4 × 21 = 84
