The sum of two numbers is 80 and their HCF and LCM are 16 and 96 respectively. The sum of reciprocals of the two numbers is:

Solution:

Let two numbers be x and y.

x+y=80

xy=\HCF×\LCM =16×96

xy=1536

Required sum =

1/x+1/y={x+y}/{xy}=80/1536

1/y+1/x=5/96

Hence, the sum of reciprocals of the two numbers is

5/96 .
