Four persons hired a taxi for Rs 6,000. The first person paid one-half of the sum of amounts paid by the other persons; the second person paid one-third of the sum of amounts paid by the other persons; and the third person paid one-fourth of the sum of amounts paid by the others. The amount paid by the fourth person is:

Validate

Solution:

Let the amount paid by the first person = Rs x
Amount paid by the other 3 persons = 6,000 - x
So,

x={6000-x}/2

2x+x=6000

x=6000/3=\Rs.2000

Amount paid by the second person = Rs y
Other persons paid = (6,000 - y)

y={6,000 - y}/3

3y=6000-y

4y=6000⇒y=\Rs. 1500

Amount paid by the third person = Rs z
Amount paid by the other persons = (6,000 - z)

z={6,000 - z}/4

4z= 6,000- z

5z= 6,000

z = \Rs 1,200

Total amount paid by the first, three persons = 2,000 + 1,500 + 1,200 = Rs 4,700
Amount paid by the fourth person = 6,000 - 4,700 = Rs 1,300
