Let the number be x.
Student asked to multiply $=\mathit{x}\times \frac{8}{17}=\mathit{y}$ ......(i)
The number divided by the student $=\mathit{x}+\frac{8}{17}=\mathit{y}+225$ ......(ii)
Subtracting equation (ii) equation from (i),
$\frac{17\mathit{x}}{8}-\frac{8\mathit{x}}{17}=\mathit{y}+225-\mathit{y}$
$\frac{289\mathit{x}-64\mathit{x}}{136}=225$
$\frac{225\mathit{x}}{136}=225$
$\mathit{x}=\frac{225\times 136}{225}=136$
So, the given number = 136.
