What is Geeta’s present age?
I. Present ages of Geeta and Seeta are in the ratio of 3 : 4 respectively.
II. Present ages of Geeta and Neeta are in the ratio of 5 : 6 respectively.
III. Three years hence, the ages of Geeta and Neeta will be in the ratio of 6 : 7 respectively.

Solution:

Using Statement I:
Ratio of present age of Geeta and Neeta be 3x : 4x.
Using Statement II:
Ratio of present age of Geeta and Neeta be 5x : 6x.
Using Statement III:
Three years hence, the ages of Geeta and Neeta will be

= {x+3}/{y+3}=6/7

Now using Statements I and III:

{3x+3}/{4x+3}=6/7

21x + 21 = 24x + 18
21 − 18 = 24x − 21x
3 = 3x
x = 1
So, Geeta’s present age = 3x = 3 years
Using Statements II and III:

{5x+3}/{6x+3}=6/7

35x + 21 = 36x + 18
36x − 35x = 21 − 18
x = 3
Present age of Geeta = 5x = 5 × 3 = 15 years
Hence, the solution can be derived by using only Statements III and either Statement I or Statement II.
