A cricketer played 80 innings and scored an average of 99 runs. His score in the last innings is zero run. To have an average of 100 at the end, his score in the last innings should be:

Solution:

Average score in 80 innings = 99 runs
Total score = 99 × 88 = 7,920 runs
Score in the 80th innings = zero
To get average 100, he needs score of x in 80th innings.
So,

{7920+x}/80=100

7,920 + x = 8,000
x = 8,000 - 7,920
x = 80 runs.
