Out of the three given numbers, the first number is twice the second and thrice the third. If the average of three numbers is 121, what is the difference between the first and third number?

Solution:

Let the three numbers be

x, x /2

and

x/ 3

respectively,
Now,

1/3(x+x/2+x/3)=121

⇒{11x}/6=121×3

∴x={121×3×6}/11=198

Hence, required difference

=x-x/3={2x}/3×198=132
